Steven and Brian Belichick, sons of former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, have been offered positions on Jerod Mayo's new staff, according to Sports Illustrated.
Steven and Brian may stay with the team after 24 years, even if their father and the team parted ways. Steven coached linebackers and called defensive plays, and Brian coached safeties.
Mayo became close to Steven as a linebacker and position coach for New England, according to Sports Illustrated.
SI said that Bill Belichick may remain or depart if he coaches another club next season. The Patriots will unveil Mayo as their 15th head coach Wednesday.
Mayo, the 2008 NFL Draft's 10th choice, played eight years with New England. He was Defensive Rookie of the Year, All-Pro, two-time Pro Bowler, and Super Bowl champion (XLIX).
In 2019, Mayo became the Patriots' inside linebackers coach four years after retirement.
Steven became a coaching assistant in 2012, then safeties coach in 2016, and linebackers coach in 2020. After Brian Flores became Miami Dolphins head coach in 2019, Steven took over New England's defensive play-calling.
The Patriots hired Brian as a scouting assistant in 2016. He became a coaching assistant a year later and safeties coach in 2020 when Steven moved to linebackers.
