Jaime Ffrench Jr. is changing his college football plans. The five-star junior left Alabama football on Sunday night, the latest recruiting move since Nick Saban's retirement on Wednesday. Ffrench joined Alabama on July 22.
Ffrench, a five-star prospect in the 247Sports composite and On3 industry rankings, is in the top five of national receiver recruits for all major recruiting agencies at 6-1, 185 pounds.
The All-First Coast first-team wide receiver helped Mandarin reach the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 4M championship in December for the second time in 34 years. Ffrench had two Mandarin touchdowns and 100 yards receiving in the state championship versus Miami Columbus.
He caught 62 receptions for 1,247 yards and 14 touchdowns this season and has topped 2,000 yards in three Jacksonville high school seasons.
Ffrench is the second prominent receiver de-commitment for Alabama since Saban's announcement. Ryan Williams of Saraland (Ala.) called off his Alabama commitment this week.
Which college football school will Jaime Ffrench go if not Alabama? Some receivers stand out despite having more than a year until National Signing Day for the 2025 class.
When Ffrench committed to Alabama in July at Southpoint Baptist Church on Jacksonville's Southside, he also selected Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State.
Three schools now or soon have Mandarin players: In December, cornerbacks A.J. Belgrave-Shorter and Jon Mitchell signed with Penn State, Mandarin graduate Kris Mitchell moved to Notre Dame last winter following a record receiving season at FIU, and Mustang QB Tramell Jones committed to the Seminoles this April Ffrench visited Florida State unofficially in November. Ffrench has many possibilities in 2024: Over 30 college offers have come to him.
