Washington coach Kalen DeBoer pursuing Alabama position

The man widely expected to succeed Nick Saban as Alabama's head coach is Kalen DeBoer, currently the coach at Washington.

Lots of sources are claiming that DeBoer and Alabama are in contract negotiations today.

Among the most enticing collegiate and professional football coaching positions were available after Nick Saban retired.

There were likely a number of NFL head coaches interested, but Alabama looks to have settled on DeBoer early on.

During his five years as head coach at Sioux Falls, the 49-year-old DeBoer led the team to three NAIA national titles. After spending two years as head coach at Fresno State, he climbed the NCAA assistant coaching levels and is now on his second stint at Washington

After taking over a Washington squad that was 4-8, DeBoer improved the team's record to 11-2 in his debut season and 14-1 in his sophomore campaign, losing only to Michigan in the CFP National Championship Game.

You can see why Alabama wanted him with all those accomplishments. Even if Washington is a formidable program, DeBoer may receive greater financial support and a higher probability of winning the national title from Alabama.

The Washington opportunity has quickly risen to the ranks of the best football positions available.
